Marvelous In My Monday #5

It’s that time again… It’s Marvelous in My Monday! Thanks to Katie at Healthy Diva Eats for hosting!

Today was an absolutely GORGEOUS autumn day! It was sunny, the leaves are really starting to change, and it was a little crisp – but definitely not cold. I would take this kind of day anytime! I just wish I could have spent more of the day outside. I did take the opportunity to walk to one of my favorite places down the street from my office to pick up lunch – just to get outside! I’m really lucky to have a marvelous place like Bruckner’s Good to Go so close to work! Today’s choice was a veggie burger (20 g of protein!!) with a side of grilled veggies. Enough veggies for you?? I didn’t take a picture, but it was definitely yummy!

The best part of today was finishing up a project at work that has been all-consuming for the past few days. I had to write a major report that is going to be presented to our local board of education (in public!!) next week. It was full of data and analysis, and really took a lot of time, energy, and concentration, but now that it’s done I’m really proud of my work. This was really the second big project for my new job, so the fact that I was able to get it done, done well, and on time is a definite win for me!

Not so marvelous is the migraine I’m thinking is headed in my direction… This is becoming far too frequent of an occurrence for me. I used to get them all the time, but I went a long time without getting them. Now I think the stress and crazy schedule from this new job are starting to get to me. I’m thinking that I might try to add some yoga into my routine to help with that. I’m definitely not a hot yoga person, but I think the stretching and such will be really good for me. I’m hoping to find a class that fits into my hectic schedule – and soon!

That’s it for me – going to go unwind with my hubby. Hope you had a marvelous Monday!

Do you do yoga?

Do you have a favorite go-to place for healthy eats?

Thankful Thursday #1

As you can tell, I’ve become all about the link-ups lately! I figure this is a great way to find some new blogs to read, and hopefully find some new folks who will like my blog as well! Thanks to Julia at Black Tag Diaries for hosting!

The past few weeks have been really crazy for me. I started a new job in July, and it came with a whole bunch of stuff I totally wasn’t expecting. There are a ton of reports to write, budgets to put together, and all of my deadlines have been basically one on top of the other. I’ve been so busy that I have found myself getting irritable, complaining about stupid little stuff, and just generally being in a funk. I decided today that I was going to try to be more thankful for the things that I have, and stop the negativity. I knew there HAD to be someone out there with a Thankful Thursdays link-up, and I was right!

So now for some positive stuff. Not all of these things are incredibly earth-shattering, or even important in the least, but sometimes it’s the little things that make life worthwhile! Here’s what I’m thankful for today – in no particular order…

My dog, Lady. As much as I complain about her, I don’t know what I’d do without that doggie smile to brighten my day.

My cat, Jasmine. She’s fuzzy, warm, and completely silly – as evidenced by the fact that she is sitting in a box in the middle of the kitchen floor. She’s my snuggle kitty.

My awesome hubby – shown here with a slice of Sicilian from our favorite local pizza joint. We’ve been together almost 19 years, married for little over 10, and I can’t imagine life without him. He’s the best.

My friends, B & E – and the fact that they got married this summer. They are awesome people, and they had an awesome wedding…in SWEDEN! So much fun, and I never would have gotten to travel to Sweden if it wasn’t for them.

The amazing children at Hogares Luz y Vida – the orphanage in Bogotá, Colombia where I volunteer my time. This little one, Luisa, is now around 4 years old. I haven’t seen her since the day this photo was taken since she was fortunate enough to go live with her grandparents, but she will forever be in my heart.

I think that’s about it for today…other than the fact that I’m really thankful for my colleagues who have been helping me with the massive project that has taken over my job, my life, and my office for the last week or so. It’s almost over – and for that I will be EXTREMELY thankful! We’ll leave that for next Thursday… 🙂

What are you thankful for today?

My First “Marvelous In My Monday” Post!

Although today was FAR from marvelous, I felt like I should post anyway! This has been a crazy few weeks at work – and this week is turning out no different! I worked all weekend on a project, and believe me – I would much rather have been outside enjoying the beautiful weather! At least the deadline is tomorrow afternoon to get everything done, and then it will be OFF MY PLATE for a while!

I have to say, despite all the craziness, there were a couple of marvelous things about today. One was this:

A friend who also spent the weekend working on the same type of project managed to get out and go apple picking for a couple of hours with her kids. She left these for me on the table in my office this morning. What a sweet (and healthy…not to mention yummy) gift!

One of the other marvelous things about today is that one of my friends knew how stressed out I was and asked if I wanted to go for a walk. It was the perfect thing to clear my head, get out in the fresh air, vent some frustration, and refresh my brain cells! We did about 3 miles, and also managed to find a little “fitness playground” to mess around at! It had a two-person airwalker, a cross-country ski machine, and some other fun fitness equipment. We will DEFINITELY be going back there again!

The other marvelous thing about today is my hubby. Although we have both been under a lot of stress and pressure at work, we’ve been working hard at making time for each other – even for the little things. Last night, we shared some tea with honey while planning out the next few weeks and talking about going bike shopping – yay!! Tonight, we’ll have dinner together when he gets home, and decompress a little. I’m really lucky to have him to share my life with. (Cue sappy music here…) This December will mark 19 years that we’ve been together! We’ve had our ups and downs, but we always get through it together.

I guess today wasn’t so bad after all! Hope you’re having a Marvelous Monday!!
